  • Über das Werk: "A Google Tree (Weinbergspark Chestnut Bonsai)" is a project that critically examines the impact of ubiquitous technology, like Google Maps, on our perception of the natural world. Google's automated process creates a navigable 3D model of our environment, primarily optimized for man-made structures, inadvertently simplifying trees into unfamiliar forms. This project manifests as a small physical sculpture of one of these digitally distorted trees, offering viewers a tangible encounter with a detail meant for a god's or drone's eye view. The resulting sculpture challenges conventional views of nature by presenting an unfamiliar and alien object at a larger than human scale. This deliberate dissonance aims to provoke cognitive estrangement, prompting viewers to reevaluate their relationship with technology and its role in shaping our understanding of the environment.
