  • Über das Werk: An extension cord is wrapped in a colourful woven sleeve. The slim cable is coiled around itself and terminates at either end in the heavy black CEE 7 plug and socket that are standard on the European continent, where Eliasson’s studio is located. The strict utility of the object is playfully challenged by the purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, and red of the rainbow. The extension cable is generally a neglected, overlooked utilitarian object, valuable only for what it conveys: the electricity needed to power another activity. Here, the vibrant wrapping grants the cable a care and attention that elevates it to the centre of attention.
